Cocoon

She spun a cocoon
The colour of a silent moon
Around what remained
Of her lost and un-gained.

She bound bone to bone
Stitched smile to song
And calmly coloured her cries
In the shades of reason gone wrong.

But when she saw
That her loss was a learning curve
And her being
Not a noun, but a verb —

She shed her silken armour
Turned her body to the sun
And remembered the shape of a hug in her arms
In time to embrace her battle undone.

  1. Amazing. Third stanza blew me away.

I’m often concerned that readers don’t catch the play on words – it does seem rather obscured beneath the poem’s steady rhythm and rich imagery. I’ve come to think of it as a buried treaure – and you’re the first to have uncovered it according to my knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to really listen 🙂

This is so beautiful and I relate to it so well. Learning that loss and grief shouldn’t be hidden but can lead to something good. Marvellous discovery.
I like your other stuff too so much. Your blessed with a great talent!
